Viking Conveyor Histroy

History

Skellerup Conveyor & Mining was purchased by Tiri Group (http://www.tiri.co.nz/) in May 2008 along with Skellerup Roofing and Waterproofing (http://www.skelleruproofing.co.nz/) and Skellerup Containment Systems (http://www.containment.co.nz/) to form a new company Viking Group Limited (http://www.vikinggroup.co.nz/).

Skellerup started manufacturing belt in Christchurch in 1966 distributing belt through Skellerup National Branch network, Paykel Bros, Palmers, Andrews & Beaven and Richardson & McCabe. Imported light weight plastic belt was added to the range in 1985. Following the closure of Skellerup’s branch network a new Conveyor Distribution network called the Red Viking Crews (RVC) was established in 1998, made up largely from previous employees of Skellerup. In 2007 the belt manufacturing plant in Christchurch was closed and black rubber belt sourcing transferred overseas.

In 2009 Skellerup Conveyor & Mining was rebranded to Viking Conveyor.
