The past

In 2008 Tiri Group purchased Skellerup conveyor and mining, along with Skellerup Roofing and Waterproofing and Skellerup Containment Systems to form a new company, the Viking Group,  As part of this purchase Skellerup Conveyor and Mining as rebranded Viking Conveyor.

Skellerup started manufacturing belt in Christchurch in 1966. Distribution was through the Skellerup National Branch network including Paykel Bros, Palmers, Andrews & Beaven and Richardson & McCabe. Imported light weight plastic belt was added to the range in 1985. Following the closure of Skellerup’s branch network a new Conveyor Distribution network called the Red Viking Crews (RVC) was established in 1998, made up largely from previous employees of Skellerup. In 2007 the belt manufacturing plant in Christchurch was closed and black rubber belt sourcing transferred overseas.

Today

August 2015 has seen the merger of two of the most established conveying brands in the New Zealand market, with Viking Conveyor acquiring Paykel Engineering Conveyor and Componentry business. Paykel Engineering has supported New Zealand businesses for over 50 years, with a strong focus on the industrial market sector such as mining and quarrying.

The acquisition sees Viking Conveyor strengthen its offering to the market with a wider product range and expanding its technical expertise and sales support for customers.
